For a long time I have been trying to trace William CARLTON B 31 October
1867 Scattergate, Appleby, Westmorland, England. The latest date I have is
the 1891 census where I am certain they he was a Private in the First Border
Regiment of Infantry In 1959 it amalgamated with the King's Own (Royal
Lancaster) Regiment to form The King's Own Royal Border Regiment on 05 Apr
1891 in Dover, Kent, England (at the South Front Barracks). If this is
William, I have always thought he probably went to South Africa and fought
in the Anglo Boer War but I have been unable to trace him there
I have just found the following which seems to fit what I know so far
