Family tradition has it that my maternal grandfather, Herbert Henry WHITE,
had a sister who married a Thomas Carleton. Herbert Henry WHITE married
Mary Alice Mancktelow in Cambridge Massachusetts in April 1902. Herbert,
Mary, and Thomas all lived on Putnam Avenue in Cambridge, Massachusetts in
the early 1920s. In a letter dated 24 March 1929 and sent from 138 Essex
Court in Salem, Massachusetts Thomas mentions his wife Ella. My 97 year-old
mother has given me conflicting stories as to who her father's sister was
that married Thomas but the various stories do NOT agree with the name
Ella. So Ella could be a second wife. Thomas has a son Lawrence Carleton
who had a son Lawrence Carleton MD. Family tradition states that Thomas
Carleton is a descendant of John Bird Sumner, Archbishop of Cantebury,
England. The Archbishop of Cantebury is to the Church of England as the
Pope is to the church in Rome.
Are there any suggestions as to the following:
1) when Thomas entered the US from England
2) the correct name of Thomas' wife and father of son Lawrence
3) who Thomas's parents were and his birth place and date (I have not been
able to find these as yet)
Thanks for any advice.
