Sally,
I don't recognize any of the names you mentioned, but I have Irish
Carlton/Carleton ancestors from Newark, New Jersey. My third
great-grandfather Daniel Carlton (b 1824 Ireland to John and Mary Carlton)
changed his family name to Carrolton around 1861 (but switched between
Carlton, Carleton and Carrolton until his death in 1909).
Daniel Carlton had cousin William Carlton/Carleton (b. Abt 1833 County
Cavan, Ireland to Patrick and Ellen Carleton) who lived near him in Newark
and he also changed the family name to Carrolton at the same time. Strange.

I am new to this mailing list. My great grandfather was William
Carlton, born
November 21, 1840 in Lewis County, New York. He enlisted in the Union Army in
1862 in Boston, ended up fighting in Louisiana and stayed in New Orleans after
the war. He married Laura Hurst and they had many children, one of whom was my
grandmother Edna Mae Carlton. (other children include Francis Alonzo, Mary
Elizabeth, Martha Ida, Emily Louisa, John Spencer, Lula Olive, Abby Gertrude,
and William Mandeville). He died in 1909 at the Soldier's Home in Ohio. I
cannot find anything on his parents or siblings. Louisiana census records
state his parents were born in New York. The death notices for him and one of
his children say to notify papers in Troy and Utica, New York, so he must have
had relatives there. I have searched many, many records to no avail. I have
many Carlton relatives who are interested in finding about William's heritage.
Alternative spelling on some census records is Carrollton.
