Harold,
That's encouraging news. I assume you've contacted the page owner. Let
us know if there are more developments.
The inference regarding the Hempstead/Duchess County connection is
one I've wondered about in the more general case. That is, I've noticed that
often
two or more families seem to move at the same time from one area to another
leading me to wonder about the contributing cause(s), especially if there is
nothing
obvious such as an inter-marriage or two. I assume that news from returning
travelers about the "goldina medina" just over the mountain and the exigencies
of travel in those times are among the prominent causes of such a "mass"
re-location.

Karl,
This Carle folk found in this family tree (? in the Ulster Co., NY, area?)
are probably related in some way to mine in Columbia and Dutchess Co.'s on
the opposite (East) bank of the Hudson River. The Harriet Carle is
particularly suspicious although I am since there were at least one and
possibly older Harriets married to Abram Carle(s) on the east bank. The
name appears to have been somewhat popular reverting to the male Harry for
my great-grandfather Harry Carle, great-uncle Clifford Harry Carle, uncle
Clifford Harry Carle, and my brother Clifford Harry Hahn.
Another indication of a link with the Carle family on the east bank are the
members Southard family listed. You may recall I had mentioned seeing a
genealogical article some years back where someone attempted to argue that
the Southard/Southward family in Dutchess Co. in the 1700's was an offshoot
of those at Hempstead, Long Island, because church and court records
indicated that they were closely connected to the Carle family at both
locations.
