A good point. Of course, said "intimidation" was probably about as effective
as the supposed "deterrent" threat of capital punishment. Moreover, for folks
living in the squalor of London of the time, this "punishment" must have seemed
a happy surprise upon arrival in the Barbados. I've not been there but I've
been elsewhere in that vicinity and I could get used to life there very
easily.
