My g-grandfather John Sainor CARLE was b. in Camden, Washington County,
Missouri
on August 9, 1841. John's father's name was George CARLE and possibly came
from the
"Old Country"(Holland).

John S. CARLE was a miner by trade and also was a surveyor. He helped survey
Anacortes and
Bellingham, WA.
John S. CARLE was also a Civil War Veteran serving as a Private in Company
"B"
First Regiment California Volunteer Calvary. On May 29, 1865 he was on
detached
duty and sent to Fort Sumner, New Mexico to cook for the Navajo Indians. The
Indians
had been raiding the supply trains coming from the West. So by keeping the
Indians fed, the chances of the wagon trains being attacked were somewhat
lessened.
John S. Carle died September 26, 1912. He was buried on the family farm on
Lopez Island, WA.
