Looking for information on Carle's from Germany who settled in New
York
in 1913, I am third generation and have found a horde of information
on
relations in Germany with relatives there... (which I will post if
anyone is interested--it's huge) I'm more interested in where my
family's particular variation of the name came from. I've heard it was
De Charle the 1500s in Alsace-Loraine, and later changed until it was
came to be Carle.
I know of a town in two *former* areas of Germany that bear a
resemblance to Carle, one in Alsace-Loraine (Carlsberg, I believe) and
one in the Sudetenland (Carlsbad.)
Any additional info on the German Carle's would be welcome.
(Isn't it interesting how our family name had a parallel development in
several different countries? I wounder if any were immigrants and if
so, who where the "first" Carle')
