Sorry. I'm new at this.
I am reposting my inquiry about Christina and Abraham with more info. Here
is what I said yesterday: "My great great grandparents were Christina
Carle & Abraham Whitaker. Their son William A married Nancy Post, my
grandmother's mother. I would like to be able to trace this line of the
Whitakers and the Carles back as far as possible. I am sure that someone
has already done this. Any info you could provide would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you."
They lived in Ulster County, NY, specifically in
Saugerties/Glasco. William A. Whitaker, their son, is buried in
Glasco. The dates I have for Christina are 1813-1865. For
Abraham: 1809-1868. Abraham's father was William; Christina's father was
Frederick.
Thank you for any info.

Art: We appear to be related on the Carle side and perhaps on the Whitaker
side.
My forebear is Nellie Carle, sister of your Christina.
The parents of Nellie and Christina were Frederick Carle (1777-1832) and
Nellie Burhans (1784-1862). They married on 8 January 1801 and had 10 other
children: Catharina (who married Peter P. Post), Maria, John, Sally,
Abraham (who married Rachel Whitaker), Margaret, George, Eliza, William and
Hiram.
After Frederick Carle died, Nellie Burhams Carle married Paul Snyder.
Of interest, three Carle siblings married Whitakers. Your Christina married
Abraham L. Whitaker. My Nellie (1811-1874) married John B. Whitaker. Their
brother Abraham Carle married Rachel Whitaker. Abraham L. Whitaker and
Rachel Whitaker were siblings. Their parents were William Whitaker and
Catharine Lowe. I have to look at my Whitaker notes to confirm the parents
of my John B. Whitaker.
The parents of Frederick Carle were Jurge Frederick Carle and Maria
Dederick.
The parents of Nellie Burhans (1784-1862) were Tjerck Burhans (1757-1832)
and Catharine Dederick (1764-1835). Tjerck and Catharine married on 3
August 1784. Tjerck Burhans's parents were Wilhelmus Burhans and Hillitje
Schoonmaker. Catharine Dederick's parents were William Dederick and
Christina Baer. The parents of Wilhelmus Burhans (?-1780?) were Barent
Burhans (1681-1740?) and Margriet Jans Mathysen (1684-1759). The parents of
Barent Burhans were Jan Burhans (arrived in America in 1663; died 1708?) and
Helen Traphagen (?-1728/1732?). The father of Jan Burhans was Jacob Burhans
(from Holland?; in Kingston NY as of 1660; died 1677?).
My information comes mostly from the Burhans Genealogy, published in 1894
and Ulster County cemetery records.
See message from Karl Hakmiller, dated 7/27/ 99 with gravestone inscriptions
for Carles in Ulster Co.
If you are interested in the Whitakers, let me know and I'll address them in
a message to you alone because I don't think they are of general interest to
this list.

Berta,
Many thanks for your answer and for the information about the
Carles. Until a few weeks ago, I knew virtually nothing about them. This
information is a virtual gold mine. My grandmother (Emma Whitaker Brady)
knew little about her grandmother. Christina died 23 years before my
grandmother was born. The Carle connection makes a lot of things
clear. Example: Walter Crum. I have a beautiful picture of him on an
original metal plate. My father knew his name, but that is all. Walter is
buried in Brooklyn with Nancy (Post) Whitaker, Emma's mother. This new
info tells me that Walter is the grandson of Maria Carle and Peter Crum. I
knew that Nancy & Walter were "cousins". Now I know how.
Yes. I am quite interested in the Whitakers. My grandmother always spoke
of Kingston, but when I was young, Kingston could have been on the
moon. We lived in Brooklyn. I would appreciate any contact with related
Whitakers.
Yesterday, I went down to the Main Branch of the NY Public Library. They
have Burhans Genealogy. I saw it for the first time. What a gold mine!!
Thanks again for your answer and for any further family connections..
