I'm glad you posted this, Harold. I have tried and tried to find a copy
of this source for my own library but have failed. At least I know that
one exists!

I apologize if this is a duplicate posting. Some months back I gave a
basic
synopsis of James Carle's Civil War record but could not locate my copy of
the section on him from "Brevet Brigadier Generals in Blue."
P.100:
"James John Carle
Civil War Service: Captain, 6th Pa. Reserves
Captain, Provost Marshal, Staff of Brig. Gen. Samuel W. Crawford
Colonel, 191st Pa. Infantry
Brevets: Bvt. Brig. Gen., USV, March 13, 1865, for conspicuous
gallantry and meritorious services throughout the war.
Born: Sept. 8, 1835 Sanford, Broome Co., N.Y.
Died: April 26, 1892 New York City, N.Y.
Occupation: Printer and regular army enlisted man before war. U.S.
Customs official after war.
Buried: The Evergreens Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y. (Mt.Hermon Section,
Lot 2701).
Photo Credits: Mass. MOLLUS Collection, USAMHI.
Reference: Obituary, New York Times, April 28, 1892."
For sake of reference, Binghamton, NY, is the county seat of Broome Co.
where he was born. I have no idea how he fits into the NY Carles but if
anyone has access to the NY Times obituary that might informative.
