Someone on the VanDusen List, where I keep an eye out for info on another
part of my maternal grandfather's family in NY (particularly Columbia and
Dutchess Co.s), sent out links for a couple resources. The link to
Ancestry.com's Southeast New York Births & Baptisms, 1660-1916, looked very
useful but search results for "Carle" were disappointing until I stumbled on
a "Coole" in a search for a different family name in the region. Searches
for "Coole" and variations resulted in hundreds of hits. This database is
free at
http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/3711.htm
for only 10 days----although I'll probably wind up buying the CD.
I believe the Olive Tree website has been mentioned here before. The same
person sent us a link to Early Dutch Church marriage records in NY there at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/rdcmarr.htm .
I've seen some debate as to when in the 1600's the Carle family arrived on
the outskirts of New Amsterdam---and whether or not they were really
English. If we accept Cool(e) as a variant of Carle then these marriage
records indicate that on July 3, 1642, a (Cool) Carle from Essex married a
Miss Deen (Dean?) from Oxford at New Amsterdam.
"1642
29 June. Gregorius Cool, j.m Uyt de Provincie Van Essex, en Francoise Deen,
j.d. Van Oxfort in Engelant ".
Happy ancestor hunting,
