Paula,
I was searching the queries on the Family Treemaker board tonight and came
across
these two so I thought I'd help them spread the word. I'd suggest you contact

All,
The Hartford Courant (CTs main state paper), now carries obits
online but charges 75 cents per DL (after 6 PM) to a credit card.
The obits go back to only 1991. You get to see the name and the
first line or so to decide whether or not to DL the full story.
It happens it is not one of the papers covered by
the excellent service of the Obituary Daily Times so I get on
from time to time and cruise it for names of interest. The following
was one such (Husband Herman's obit was not in the archives there.)

All,
This is an interesting little book. There are only a few
references to the Carll name - all contained in this quote
but for it time (and the writing style that was typical) it
is surprisingly readable.
Taken from the following source:
History of Saco and Biddeford,
with notices of other
Early Settlements,
and of the
Proprietary Governments,
In Maine, including the provinces of
New Somersetshire and Lygonia
by George Folsom
Saco:
Printed by Alex. C. Putnam
1830.
PREFACE
The materials for the greater part of the present volume has been
gathered from unpublished and forgotten documents. Wherever the
writer has derived aid from the labors of others, he has acknowledged
the obligation by a reference to their pages. Unfortunately the
settlements in Maine have been almost wholly neglected by New England
historians.
P. 285 From Pepperellboro (now Saco) the following persons were in
continental service at some period of the war. John Googins, killed
in the action at Hubbardstown, July 7, 1777, the day after the
evacuation of Ticonderoga by the American troops. John was in the
rear guard commanded by Colonel Francis, a very gallant officer, who
fell in the same engagement. Stephen Sawyer, son of David Sawyer,
senior, died in the army. John Hooper, died during the war at Boston.
Abiel Beetle,Nicolas Davis, Jonathan Norton, Daniel Bryant, James
Scamman, son of Mr. Ebenezer Scamman, John Tucker, John Runnels,
John Ridlon, John Carll, Eben. Carll, Evans Carll, William Carll,
(sons of Mr. Robert Carll; the name was often written Kearl.),
Levi Foss, Pelatiah Foss; the last fell at Ticonderoga; sons of
Mr. Walter Foss.

This note is especially for Karl L.Hakmiller. Others are welcome to
look, too.
I have to send you my Carle and Pennell names. I wish I had more
narration on these lines. Have you found books or family traditions?
Do you have any stories about Huguenots in the Pennell lines?

Hello
I'm new to the Carl list and was wondering if anyone knew anything about my
William Henry Carl?
Here goes
William Henry Carl b1834 married Christina Hedrick b 1824. I believe that
William was the son of William Carl born 1795.
William and Christina had the following children
Elizabeth b 1852 married Jeramia Case b 1850
Danny b 1857-1932
Susanna b 1858-1939 m William O. Shoemaker
William Carl b1859
Dayton 1860 married to Mary Florence
Mary Ann b 1864-1921 m Sylvester Gorman
William and Christina are listed in the 1850 Adams County, Ohio census, as
married within the last year.
In 1860 they are in Bratton Township, Adams County, Ohio
In 1880 I can only find Christina Carle listed as Divorced.
William Henry Carl was suppose to have been a Civil War Veteran, and it is
said by family members that he deserted his family.
Does anyone have any clues?

These folks are not as early as Joseph Carle but
they died in the same county. Might be relatives

Dear List Members:
I would like to learn more about the relationship between the CARLE, RODGERS
and BURNS families, early of the area near to or at Columbiana Co., OH.
In furtherance of efforts to promote the exchange of facts and "snipets:"
Records from Columbiana Co., OH indicate that a Joseph CARLE d. before July
22, 1815, leaving heirs including a widow.
"The amount taken by the widow at the appraisement" was $124.00.
With other items, the value of the estate recorded in one of the public
records was "$535.72," including debts owing to the "Estate" of "$34.81."
One of the administrators of Joseph CARLE's estate was William RODGERS. John
BURNS and a George BURNS acted as Sureties.
Refer to: Columbiana Co., OH records. Case#230
My maternal grandfather Lloyd A. Carle, Sr., and at least several prior
generations lived in Columbia Co., NY, and neighboring areas. When I
researched things 20-25 years ago, I remember running across an article in
which an author attempted to argue that his group of Southards/Southwards in
Dutchess Co. had to be a branch of the Hempstead, Long Island, family
because they were so closely tied to Carles in both places. It seemed to me
a fair clue as to when the Carles got to the area. At this point I am
rebuilding everything from scratch as all of my old files are destroyed.
I am fairly certain that I had narrowed the search for the father of Abram
Carle, Sr., to Abraham Carle (and possibly one other on the earliest
