Bingo! have been looking years for Seth's **probable** parents, as follows:
In 1765 Rosanna (Ferguson, dau. of Charles) Stafford (wid. of Jacob) married one William
Lord Carhart. She and her sisters and her husband and their husbands sold their
respective interests in Ferguson land in Sussex Co. DE in 1750s and 1760s, then most left
DE. A suspected daughter of Rosanna and Jacob Stafford, named Sarah, in 1766 married my
ancestor William Joseph. William Joseph is probably the one assesed for 1768 in
Cumberland Twp., Cumberland Co., PA (not in 1772/3 Bedford Co. assessment). By 1772
(perhaps 1770) arrived at West's Run, just NE of Morgantown, (West) VA, where he lived
among other Delawareites such as John Burroughs and some Walls' and other Staffords.
One of William Joseph's sisters had married a Samuel Johnson by whom she had son
Lemuel; I have not pinned down the Johnson family relationships, but some Johnsons were in
the West's Run neighborhood as land grantees, and it seems likely they were also from
the Sussex Co., DE neighborhood (Broadkiln !
Hundred and Indian River) that William Joseph came from, that included the Ferguson and
Jones lands that the above Rosanna had inherited parts of.
Meanwhile in Cumberland Co., the USGenWeb site (bless them) has posted abstracts of wills.
In Will Book E, one William Carhart's will of 1785 bequeathes to wife Rosanna and son
Seth and a daughter. The decedent was of Carlile.
I think we have a lot to talk about.
