Margaret/Peggy Cargile, d/o John Cargile, b. about 1757/9; m. 6 Oct 1779
William Fletcher, who was b. Stafford Co., VA 1758.
"William Fletcher, Revolutionary War Claim S 32 249. States he was born in
1758 in Stafford County, VA. While a resident of Wilkes County, North
Carolina, he enlisted in 1778 and served seven short tours at various times
as Captain under Colonels Benjamin Cleveland, Joseph Herndon, E. Isaacs, and
Francis Locke in the North Carolina Troops, was taken prisoner date not
stated, but escaped the same night. He served in all, one year and nine
months. He moved from Wilkes Co., N.C. to Georgia, date not stated and from
Georgia to S.C. thence to Kentucky, and from Kentucky to Tennessee and in
1818 to Jackson County, Ala., in which county he was living while allowed
pension on his application dated Oct. 3, 1832. He d. Nov. 27, 1837 leaving a
widow Patsy [sic], whose maiden name is not stated." (Kathleen Paul Jones
and Pauline Jones Gandrud, "Alabama Records," 19:99, Southern Historical
Press, Easley, South Carolina.)
NOTE: Wife Patsy could be a misprint for Peggy. If he did have a wife named
Patsy, then she would have to be a second wife. You might check DAR Patriot
Index and see if he's on their roles. If so, send $5.00 to DAR and ask for
a copy of an application that has the most children listed. You might also
want to check Virgil D. White, "Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War
Pension Files" National Historical Publishing Company, Waynesboro, Tenn.,
1990. This may show his wife's name and possibly names of children. You can
also send to National Archives for a copy of his pension application.
Good luck,
Patty Myers

Subject: Cargill book, possible Fletcher connection
One of my gg-grandfathers was Cargill Fletcher of Logan Co., KY, born
in
SC. I found a much later Cargill Fletcher in West Virginia and those are
the only two I know of. Does anyone know of a Cargill Fletcher marriage?
