James Cargill, father of Benjamin is my ancestor. He was born Aghadowey, Londonderry
County, North Ireland abt. 1687; emigrated to New England August 1718; died Mendon,
Worcester County, Massachusetts, Oct 1753. He married 1723, Pawtuxet, Providence County,
Rhode Island, Phebe Smith; had six children. His lineage in North Ireland and Scotland
follows:
John Cargill, bapt. Rattray, Scotland, 14 August 1660; d. Ballinrees, Aghadowey, North
Ireland, m. Unknown.
John Cargill, b. Haltoun of Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland, 03 Dec 1620; d. Aghadowey,
North Ireland abt. 1685; m. Mary Ann Archer.
John Cargill, Portioner of Haltoun of Rattray, b. Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland abt. 1582;
d. there abt. 1632; m. Rattray, Scotland, Juky 1614, Jeane Gray. He was the eldest son of
Donald Cargill and Marjory Blair. His brother Laurence Cargill, youngest son of Donald
and Marjory was the father of Reverend Donald Cargill, the Martyr and Covenanter.
Donald Cargill, Vicar of Rattray, b. Blairgowrie, Scotland abt. 1550; d. Kirktoun of
Rattray abt. 1623; m. Marjory Blair.
