Hi
I am trying to find out about this clergyman. I don't
think he's related to me, but he crops up in
connection with my family. My great grandfather,
William Edwin BLATCHLEY, attended Southwell Grammar
School in the 1860s, I think on a scholarship and we
have a Classical Dictionary of his which is stamped
with the school emblem and initialled 'J D C'. In
1872, James was an Executor of the Will of Bennet
CHALLANDS, William Edwin's great uncle. I think that
Bennet may have had a connection with Halam, a village
about a mile from Southwell, although he was born in
Bottesford, Leicestershire, where his family had lived
for generations.
I have looked back in the List articles and found an
entry by Jonathan Gentry of a death notice for Mary
Burton, daughter of a James Cargill of Southwell, who
hopefully is my James.
I would be very grateful if anyone can fill in any
details of James life which I might be able to connect
with mine.
Many thanks in advance - I hope these details aren't
too confusing!
Kind regards
Joanna
