I myself am leery about participating in a "Project" affiliated with US Gen
Web and Rootsweb because the hosts of those sites have a tendency to take
your work, put it on a CD and then sell it to other people. They don't
check the work either.
They don't have time, however, to scan the boards/e-lists to pull out data
...possibly because they are posted so infrequently. So, I'd post my info
on the e-list before submitting it to a "project" that seems geared to
collecting data for sale.
However, in answer to your question:
A Family Group Sheet is a report on a family, usually two generations:
father/mother and children. In Family Tree Maker, you can generate a report
in two ways:
1. in outline form without any notes, etc.
2. in report form. Using the options part of the form (under contents,
options), you can send it with or without source information and with or
without notes.
I usually generate a report and edit out the parts of the notes that I don't
want using my wordprocessor (Word in my case) before posting it.
You should take care not to post info on living people. FTM allows you to
post their names without info by using the privatize option (found under
File, preferences, privatize). However, once you change it to privatize,
you can't make changes to your data until you unprivatize it (same steps:
File, preferences, unprivatize). Your file will have a different color when
you privatize it so that you can tell that's what's happening.
