MaryPat,
This information probably won't help you because it pre-dates your ancestors'
arrival, but if anyone is looking for information on Irish ancestors, always
check the New York Emigrant Savings Bank records.
This bank was founded by officers of the Irish Emigrant Society, mainly for
the Irish emgrants, but some of the patrons were non-Irish, and some lived in
New Jersey and other areas.
Apparently, the surviving records date from 1850-1880. I don't know if there
are later records, or if the bank survived past 1880, but if you are lucky
enough to find an ancestor listed, you will hit a GOLD MINE of family
information. The bank records list dates of arrival, where the individual came from,
next of kin, family members here and back in Ireland, and more . . .
You can find more information on the Bank at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~irish/igsi_published/em-bank.htm
and:

Hope this helps someone,
Joyce Carey,
