Hi:
The first few words of introduction to a new group, seem always to
consist of a great deal of fumbling to find the right words, and I'm not
immune to the effect.
My earliest known CAREY ancestor is a Simon CAREY of New Richmond, P.Q.
"Les Familles de Caraquet: Fidele: 1985; dictionnaire genealogique" and
("The Descendents of Louis Brideau and Marie Thomas of Tracadie, NB,
September 01, 1998, Jim Tabaka, page 2), the marriage of Jean-Baptiste
CAREY and Charlotte Marie Brideau is described. It occured on June 30,
1789 in Carleton, P.Q.. Jean-Baptiste was 24 at the time.
The groom's parents are listed as Simon CAREY and Marguerite Gautreau of
New Richmond, P.Q.. Simon is later reported to have died in 1780.
I have been unable to push the envelope any further than this. Help!
A final aside: New Richmond, P.Q. was originally settled by soldiers of
James Wolfe's army, many of whom were Irish, either regular troops,
perhaps from Northern Ireland, or Irish/American militiamen, who were
granted land in the area in the years immediately following the Peace of
Paris, February 10, 1763.
Yours, aye
