Hi Gary,
I too have a John Carey I'm researching in Brooklyn. He was my GG
Grandfather. He is found in Census records up to 1900. In that census it states that
he was born in Ireland in February, 1833. Had been in the US since 1852.
Lived at 14 Luquer Street. Was a widower. Wife's name, first wife that is, and
my blood relative... was Hannah Manning Carey. She died young. Their children
were: Nora born 1858, Mary, born 1861, Hannah (my G Grandmother) born 1865,
Timothy born 1866 and Teresa born 1867. They lived in South Brooklyn.. near
Gowanus Canal and I think attended St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish. I know
this isn't the same family you are searching for but in case you get any leads
that look like mine keep me in mind!
Have you been to the Brooklyn website?
http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/
They have Brooklyn Directories listed and several members who will do census
lookups for people. That might help you some.
Thank you!
Susan
