Jerry - this might be helpful
Over the last 10 years I have been noting down some tips regarding Irish
Family History. This has now reached about 15 pages of A4 and is too long
to post to a list.
Tribal Pages have recently introduced a facility to allow the posting of
Family History Stories so I have added - Irish Genealogy - "A Family History
Primer" by Liam Martin to one of my story sites.
This can be found at the URL
http://postmanbill2.tribalpages.com
Go to "Useful Links" on the home page and click on "Irish Genealogy - A
Family History Primer "
Comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome

Subject: [CAREY] TOOLE, MALLEY, CAREY, MCDONOUGH
Searching for the county of origin in Ireland for
Darby (O')TOOLE, b. 1850 Ireland, emigrated 1864, settled in Bellaire,
Ohio, died 1914, Bellaire, Ohio
His death certificate lists his father's name as Thomas O'Toole.
Anne (O')MALLEY, b. 1852 Ireland, emigrated 1853, settled in Bellaire,
Ohio, died 1904, Bellaire, Ohio
Darby and Anne married in 1873 in Bellaire.
Thomas (O')MALLEY, b. variously 1818-1824 Ireland, emigrated 1853, settled
in Bellaire, Ohio, died 1912 Martin's Ferry.
His death certificate lists his father's name as Thomas O'Malley
Sarah (or Sadie) MCDONOUGH b. 1830 Ireland, emigrated 1853, settled in
Bellaire, Ohio, died 1900 Bellaire.
I have her maiden name from her children's death certificates.
Thomas O'MALLEY and Sarah MCDONOUGH are the parents of Anne.
Death certificates for Darby, Anne, Thomas, and Sarah all merely list
Ireland as birthplace, no county.
Intention to naturalize for Darby also just lists Ireland, no county.
If from Griffith's Valuation I cross McDonough with Thomas O'Malley, I
find several dozen parishes were both were present, mostly in County
Mayo, some County Galway, a few other places.
There are several Thomas O'Tooles in Griffith's, and not centralized on
any particular county.
Darby's obituary mentions that he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Thomas
CAREY. I had believed he came alone to America at age 14; I have a ship
manifest which lists a Darby Toole which fits. I don't know if his
surviving sister is in America, or stayed in Ireland.
brsgenealogy web sites lists marriages for a Thomas O'Malley, for a
Sarah McDonough, and birth for an Anne O'Malley which might fit, but
nothing that fits all 3. I haven't yet taken the plunge to pay money to
see records which might or might not match.
Any information is appreciated.
Jerry
