Hi! I am descended from a John Carey b /10/1825,who married Sarah Utter.b
5/17/1839, on 10/14/1854. She died 10/01/1909. They had a farm in Boone
co., Iowa.
Their children were:
Rebecca Louise b5/17/1863
Sydney P. b 11/11/1857
Theodore b 10/9/1860
Andrew b 10/04/18855
Mary E b5/4/1866
Carrie D b 11/5/1868
John P b 2/10/1872
Ernest Quincy b 1/1/1875
Effie b 4/5/1880
Raymond b 11/28/1890
The above birth dates seem over a very long period of time. Maybe Effie and
Raymond are of another generation. I have pictures and some contacts with
other decendents of this family. I simply have not sorted out all of the
material that I have. Rebecca is my Great grandmother. She married Harrison
Stoker and Lyman Palmer; lived in Perry, Iowa and died there on Willis Ave.
She was quite active in the Disciples of Christ Church there. I went to her
funeral in 1941.at that church.

Fellow CAREY Listers:
I seek any linkage or information on my Great Grandfather, William CAREY /
CARY [CARY on his naturalization documents, even though he signed it William
Carey]. b. County Mayo [Town not know] abt. 1808/9, son of John & Catherine
CAREY. Emigrated in 1829 to Quebec, Canada, along with fiance' Margaret
KILROY of County Cavan, and married in Quebec [presume Montreal or Quebec
City] in 1829.
Further emigrated to Coeymans, Albany County, NY in March of 1830. 5
children b. in NY: Patrick: 1833, Robert 1834, Richard 1839, James Joseph
[my Grandfather] 1844, and Ann b. 1847. The 1850 Federal Census finds them
in Coeymans with Ann KILROY, Margaret's mother, b. County Cavan in 1780. In
abt. 1852, the entire family moved to Aurora [later renamed Auroraville],
Waushara County, WI, where Ann died---- possibly because of the hardships of
the trip. There they homesteaded and farmed and later went into the business
of raising cranberries. Full details on the entire family at my family
history database on the Internet at the following URL:

Interested in any and all information regarding possible ancestors from Mayo

When the first census was done in 1790, there were two Cary's listed in Craven County NC. They were Richard and Nicholas. My ancestor is Richard. I do not know the connection to Nicholas, or where they were before they are found in Craven County. Richard married Sarah ?. Their children are Edward, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary and Richard.
I would like to know where they came from and connect them to their family elsewhere. Nicholas married Nancy Good and later Sarah Clark. Both men may have marriage prior to these. Nicholas' children were Thomas, Charles and Betsy Carey.
Any information would be appreciated.
Anne CAREY was born 1856 daughter of ThomasCAREY, mother unknown (even
on death certificate) immigrated from Tipperary either 1869 or 1870.
Dates on census differs. Married James GLEESON/GLEASON in Torrington
Connecticut 1875. Died Sept. 25, 1930 in Torrington Connecticut.

Hello,
We've been searching for Timothy W. Carey for years and have hit a dead-end.
Here is what limited information we have:
1) He served in the 1st Maryland Infantry and 2nd Maryland Cavalry during
the Civil War (Confederate).
2) He became a Baltimore City Police officer sometime after the war and
remained in service for 25 years (working in virtually every department)
3) He died somewhere around the turn of the century.
4) When he died, he left behind a widow (unknown name) and daughter (Lillian?)
5) That daughter married a Garrigan and had at least one son, Joseph Francis
Garrigan (gg-grandfather).
If anyone has any information on Timothy, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hello,
Welcome to the CAREY-L discussion list. Our group is small but very friendly
and helpful. Please feel free to post your queries and or any information
you may wish to share. If you want to observe for a few days and just get
the "feel" of this list, that's OK, too.
But don't feel that you are being ignored if no one answers your post. It
just means that no one has found a connection at this time. Try posting your
message again later. Send your messages to: CAREY-L(a)rootsweb.com
To subscribe & unsubscribe ONLY, send command to:
CAREY-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
If you are new to the Internet, or to Mailing Lists, here are a few helpful
hints:
1. Make your Subject Line specific; i.e., Name, Place, Time Frame, etc..
Example 1: Ebenezer B. CAREY, b. 1812, Washington Co., KY
Example 2: CAREY Marriages, Wash. Co., KY, 1800-1850
Most people are subscribed to many lists, and only have time to briefly scan
the messages. You don't want the person who may be your best connection to
overlook or delete your message.
2. If you are replying to a message, be sure your reply relates to the
original message. If it is a different subject, change the subject line
accordingly.
3. As of now, I have set the reply to go to the individual, instead of to
the list. If you want to respond to the list as well, so that everyone sees
your answer, simply put the list address in the "To:" box:
CAREY-L(a)rootsweb.com
4. It's very helpful if you capitalize all SURNAMES in the body of your
message. This helps people to quickly scan the entire message.
5. Limit your messages to one subject. Send separate messages, as many as
you like, for each separate subject.
This group is for the discussion of ALL possible spellings of the name CAREY,
such as: CARY, CARREY, or any other possible variation. There is a separate
CARY list, however, and you may want to subscribe to that one, as well. It
never hurts to cover ALL the bases.
If you need any help, or have any questions about this list, please feel free
to contact me directly. I wish you much success in your research.

Dear List,
I am looking for information regarding my great-grandfather, Simon C.
Carey. He was born ca. 1844 in Ireland. He fought in the Civil War and
was with the 71st Enrolled Missouri Militia (1862) and then in January,
1864 enlisted in the 7th Missouri Cavalry (Union). This enlistment was
credited from Crooked River Township, Ray County, MO. He married
Elizabeth Sutherlin in Ray County, MO and I believe they lived in Ray
County, possibly Crooked River Township, during 1864. His military
papers state he was born in County Clare, Ireland. Does anyone have
connections to Carey families who were in Ray County, MO around that
time or Lafayette County/Saline County, Missouri area who came from
Ireland? He enlisted in the 71st E.M.M. in Saline County, MO. Thanks for
any help.

Hello, Everyone.
My name is Joyce CAREY and I've just volunteered to be the administrator for
the CAREY-L list. Apparently, the former admin is no longer able to handle
the duties. The list has a small number of subscribers [about 150], but I
hope we can help each other, and maybe in time we'll grow into a more active
list.
I would like to ask each of you to post a brief message outlining your CAREY
connection in the next week or two, so as to give me and anyone else who's
just joined the list an idea of who you are and which CAREY [CARY, etc.]
you'd like to find.
I'm sending a brief outline of my CAREY's [actually, my husband's family] in
a separate message following this one. Also, I'll send a copy of my Welcome
message to new subscribers, which has what I like to think are a few helpful
suggestions for getting more out of your discussion list.
As of now, I have set the reply to go to the individual, instead of to the
list. If you want to respond to the list as well, so that everyone sees your
answer, simply put the list address in the "To:" box: CAREY-L(a)rootsweb.com
This list is set up to receive messages that are posted to the Rootsweb
Message Boards, in addition to messages posted by list subscribers. But keep
in mind, people who post to the Message Boards are not necessarily subscribed
to the list. So if you want to respond, you can reply directly to the
person who posted, or visit the message board location [the URL is provided
with the message] and post your reply there.
Feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions, need any help,
or have any suggestions to make our list more productive.
Sincerely,
Joyce Carey

Sources
The sources for the Carey family were given to me by
Rex Carey--Carey researcher.,
1. The 1880 Mortality Schedule for Arkansas shows
Elijah Cary, age 86 having
died in Hempstead Co in June of that year. (Appears to
be a little conflict
on age since he shows to be 62 in the 1860 census.)
2. A bio from the May 30,1912 Baptist Advance, under
Elder Elijah Carey states:
"I knew this brother when I was a boy. He lived in
