I have yet another Carew, I think?
Who is George Carew?? And Redmond Carew??
Recently on a visit to Peterborough, saw the "Frost Papers" and mentioned in
amongst other Carew births and baptisms are four children of Redmond and
Frances Carey. My feeling is that they are connected to Thomas and Esther
Carew somehow - why else would this personal family information be there??
I can identify all the other names listed in the Frost papers.
Since that trip have found the following - Redmond Carey, b. Otonabee, Rail
Road Foreman, parents: George Carew and Catherine Ingram. married to Frances
Gilles on July 25, 1882 - both Church of England.
Birth of Ethel (first child mentioned in the Frost Papers) Redmond Carey
occupation was a Carpenter.
Both Redmond Carey (1853 - 1937) and Frances Gilles (1863 - 1940) are buried
at Emily Cemetery.
Found their tombstone, by accident while there within the last month.
George Carew died April 23, 1893 b. Ireland, 75 years (of course he died
before the 1901 census, where we could have gotten a clue as to when he
arrived in Canada)
Informant - Redmond Carew, Laborer, Omeme
Religion of deceased - Roman Catholic
1852, 1861, 1871, 1881 Census of Canada (Otonabee, Peterborough) shows this
family as "Carew"
1891, 1901 Census of Canada (Otonabee, Peterborough) shows this family as
"Carey"
All of the above census shows them as Roman Catholic.
Any clues out there as to who this family is?
George Carew, b. circa 1818, Ireland
Catherine (Ingram), b. circa 1820, Can West
Mary, b. 1846, Can West
Esthir, b. 1848, Can West
John, b. 1852, Can West
Redmond, b. 1853, Can West; married Frances Ann Gilles July 25, 1882 (see
above)
Margaret, b. 1858, Can West
George, b. 1861 Can West
James, b. 1865, Ont.
Catherine, b. 1868, Ont.
Any help in connecting these Carew appreciated
Lois

Since this Edward Carew was born in Ireland, it would now seem that
we are
looking at a 4th Carew family out of the Peterborough District or a branch
originating in Ireland. He could be connected to one of the other three -
being a brother of an existing new settler Carew. Having his father's name
would help. Can you determine when he settled in Ennismore? Our cottage
was
across Chemong Lake from Ennismore, and I fished there often as a
child.
