New information on the Peterborough Carews - there are about 6-8 families
now. The names of the parents of Mary and George Carew are learned from two
Catholic St. Peters Cathedral, Peterborough marriage entries, recently
examined. When a Mary Carews widowed husband, Francis (Frank) Molony
remarried Hanna McCarty on 8 March 1851, the manuscript entry to identify
Frank stated his first wife within the entry as <Mary Carew sister of George
Carew of Otonabee>. The original marriage entry for 10 August 1846 for Mary
Carew gave the names of her parents as <Jno Carew and Johanna Dwyer> - that
would be John in short Jno, common for the period. Thus George Carew's
parents. It is almost certain that Redmond Carew, also of Otonabee Township,
Peterborough County, Canada West was a brother of George Carew. The family
folklore is such, and they farmed close to each. Also George Carew named one
of his sons, Redmond Carew. Later this Redmond Carew married in the
Protestant faith and also the records of his children's baptisms were
recorded in the centre of a list of the descendants of Protestant Thomas
Carew & Esther, just mentioned by Carew researcher, Lois Edwards. Somehow
all these families are connected and one lady genealogist has hired a Dublin
researcher to search for some answers, if possible.
