This is a follow-up to my Mar. 1, 2006, posting to the CARLOCK, CARELOCK, and CEARLOCK
lists regarding the recently-published book titled "The Heritage of Old Mecklenburg
County, North Carolina, 1763 - 2003."
The Conrad CARLOCK mentioned on page 220 of the above-mentioned book was s/o David
GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH. Conrad is also mentioned as follows on page 143 of the
above-mentioned book in the article titled "351 FAMILY OF FREDERICK CARLOCK, SR.
(1720 - ?)," compiled by me: "The fourth child [of David Gerlach/Carlock] was
Conrad, born in 1723, who can be found in Augusta County, Virginia, records in 1753, and
Fincastle County, Virginia, records in 1774. Records show Conrad to have furnished
supplies to Virginia troops in 1756. Conrad died in 1811, reportedly leaving no
descendants."
The listing on page 220 is significant because it shows Conrad and his wife Mary as also
having owned land in Mecklenburg Co., NC, indicating that they probably also lived in
Mecklenburg Co., NC, sometime prior to July 1774. Following is the information, including
sources, which I have for Conrad and Mary at this time:
Conrad CARLOCK (s/o David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH) was born 1723, and died 1811. He
married Mary. According to page 436 of the book "History of the Carlock
Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, Conrad died without issue. Mary and Conrad
sold 100 acres of Dutch Buffalo Creek and Rocky River, Mecklenburg Co., NC, to Christopher
Andreas GUTHMANN/GOODMAN, July 1774. Residence near Carlock Creek, a few miles north of
Chilhowie, Smyth Co., VA; and probably Mecklenburg Co., NC, prior to July, 1774. Will
probated Aug. 20, 1811, Washington Co., VA.
