Someone sent this to me, they found it on the internet.
Not sure where it was. Sorry.
I just love it when that happens and it is something important!!!!!
This is one of those "missing pieces" to the puzzle that will take a
little bit of looking at to figure out just how it fits in.
The info contained in the below mentioned Bible is about the family of
John Cardwell that came from NC to Roane County, Tn, then on to
Missouri. I've been on this trail for several years and had linked him
to Patrick Co.,Va and Stokes County, NC.
Walt Pollock are you out there?????? This is your line!!!!!
The big "light bulb" about the names mentioned in the Bible was the
Clark family. Several months ago someone sent me info about the slave
trade mentioned in early Patrick Co.,VA documents. It list the following
names;
Thomas Cardwell to Joel Clark; Thomas Cardwell to George Clark; William
and Frances Gaines; Perrin Cardwell.
John Cardwell that settled in Missouri married the daughter of Thomas
Gaines... he had sons names William and Frances Gaines. The time periods
that they lived are correct also.
In a court record in Roane county, Tn John Cardwell mentions the
following individuals; Perrin Cardwell, Wiltshire Cardwell, Elisha, John
and Edward Collins, John Bohannon, Samuel Hamby as living in Patrick
co., VA or Stokes Co.,NC. Note that one of the daughters of Thomas
Gaines married a Bohannon.
Now the link that needs to be addressed is that of Thomas Cardwell -
b.9/1/1745 and his wife Mary b. 8/21/1747. WHO ARE THEIR PARENTS????????
THOMAS CARDWELL BIBLE OF MISSOURI
Owner: Mrs. Jennie Clark Hawkins
Samuel Clark b. 10/1740
Thomas Cardwell b. 9/1/1745 (father)
Mary Cardwell b. 8/21/1747(mother)
These are the parents of John Cardwell of Roane Co.,TN and Webster
Co.MO... NO MORE GUESSING!!!!!
John Cardwell b. 3/15/1777
Sarah Cardwell 8/10/1780
Elizabeth Cardwell b. 4/8/1787
Perrin Cardwell b. 4/11/1791
I would guess (semi-educated ... I'm from Tennessee<grin>) that this is
a list (maybe partial) of the children of Thomas and Mary.
Joel Clark b. 9/5/1783 m. Elizabeth Cardwell
George Clark m. Sarah Cardwell. Brothers married sisters
Deaths:
Samuel Clark 6/7/1832
Thomas Cardwell 10/24/1828 (father)
Mary Cardwell 5/15/1824 (mother)
Clears up the lack of records in Patrick Co.Va and Surry/Stokes Co.,NC
for Thomas Cardwell. Plus gives good birth and death dates that were not
known before (except to the Hawkins family)
Perrin Cardwell 9/26/1826
Gives more info to the Perrin puzzle!!!!!
Mary Clark 7/18/1828
George Clark 5/1840, St. Charles, MO
Elizabeth Clark 10/5/1855
Wilshire Clark 6/19/1854
Sarah Clark 5/1863
Seems that the Clarks are the family that had the Bible. If it had
been the family of John Cardwell of Roane and Webster then it would have
contained his children. It appears that John's sisters that married into
the Clark line also moved to Missouri.... needs to be checked out.
This is great! Thanks Kay!
Later,
Rand Cardwell
PS. Kay, I haven't forgotten about for request .... just been busy.
Promise I'll get to it!
