For anyone interested:
There was a James Cardwell from Ky. who applied for land in Visalia Co.
California on 8 Aug 1868.
Not sure about this guy.....
1880 Census also listed an R. G. Cardwell 46 from TN.
But this guy is from the Sumner Co.TN group that springs from Thomas
Cardwell of Granville Co.TN
Robert G. Cardwell ... not sure of which of the Sumner Co. Cardwells he is
the son of..... enlisted in the war with Mexico and afterwards headed west.
He eventually ended up in CA. There is some record (i would have to dig
around for it) where he killed a man after the guy either bite his nose or
ear off!!!!!! Wwwwaaaaaaaa!
I think I would kill someone too if they did that. Not sure if he had a
wife ( I imagine that he was rather ugly after the attack...especially if it
was his nose ) or any children. Just one of those Cardwell bits of history
I have floating around. opps after looking at the date on the census and
his age I would assume that it is the son of Robert that fought in the
Mexican war. So I guess he had a son. I've not researched this branch, but
know from where it came.
