I am hoping someone can give me a clue or hint or outright information to
finish my decades' long search for my grandmother's 1st husband. I'm
basically just trying to find out when and where he died.
Lloyd CARDWELL (as we knew the name) was born 25 Aug 1878 in Concord
Township, Woodbury, Iowa. His parents were Albert CARDWELL and Cora SMITH.
He married my grandmother, Gilka "A" (Gail) BUSS, 17 Jan 1907 in Council
Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa. He had been an inmate in the Nebraska State
Penitentiary and was only released days before they wed. We have no idea
how they met or courted or whatever.
They had 2 daughters who are now deceased: Grace and Helen. By 1910 they
appear to have been divorced, although we have found none of the family
anywhere on the 1910 Census.
Lloyd gave his name as Joseph Lloyd CARDWELL in 1918 on his WWI draft
registration card. He said he was bron 25 Aug 1878, and his nearest
relative was Nora Alta CARDWELL, who was his wife. He was in Cliquot, Polk,
Missouri.
In 1920 he is in Mercer Township, Logan County, Colorado, as Loyd J.
CARDWELL with a wife Nora and 3 children. In 1930 he is ilisted as Joseph
L. CARDWELL in Sterling, Logan, Colorado, with Nora and 4 children.
Anyone who has this man in their family or records, please contact me. I
would like to know when and where he died. Besides the 2 daughters he had
with my grandmother his family includes a granddaughter, 2 great grandsons,
and others in the 3g and 4g generations who do not know what happened to
their ancestor and would like to know.
Thanks, Ed Scriven
