My earliest Cardwell is James. Born about 1790 in North Carolina. Married
Elizabeth Foster in 1823, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Ring any bells with anyone?

Subject: Re: [CARDWELL-L] Perrin Cardwell of Adair Co., KY ........HELP
My problem is I don't KNOW if we're related. My brick wall
is one
Caroline Matilda Cardwell, who married an Alfred Reddick on 1 Aug. 1857,
in Grainger Co., TN and thereafter lived in Rutledge, Grainger Co. until
at least 1870, bearing him at least two children, James Lafayette "Lafe"
(my great-grandfather) and Albert Sidney. After Mr. Reddick was
captured in the Civil War, the family is listed as Cardwell in the 1870
census, after which they moved somewhere in Southern Missouri (There is
a town named Cardwell in the "toe" of Missouri and on the Arkansas
border). In the 1860 census they are listed as "Rheddick", with two
children born before they were married. My problem is that I don't know
if Cardwell was Matilda's maiden name or if she was married before to a
Cardwell or what. Lafe supposedly told his daughter-in-law that their
real name was Red-something (she wasn't sure), while the eldest
(Richard) told his children that Lafe was his half-brother.
Anyway, I can't find any information that links her to any of the
Cardwells in eastern TN or western NC around that time. Any of Perrin's
relatives marry around 1850 and then die or get divorced? Any have a
daughter named Caroline Matilda, born around 1835? Any marry any
Pollards or Pollands or Crouters or Crowders?
You seem to be the expert on Perrin's ancestors/descendants in that neck
of the woods. Throw me a bone! ;) If you can find any connection, I've
got lots of info on her descendants that I'd be happy to share!
