Gary,
I wouldn't be at all surprised if there isn't a connection between your
George Washington CARDWELL and my Maria CARDWELL. I've learned that her
father was James Allison CARDWELL, b. 1827 TN (father born NC, mother born
TN). James married Caroline, b. 1830 IL (father born NC, mother born KY).
Children: Madora, b. 1850; Alvin, b. 1854; Calvin D., b. 1856; Mary/Maria,
b. 1858--all born Iowa; and William W., b. 1860; Sarah, b. 1862; Della, b.
1865; Rosella, b. 1867; and Laura, b. 1870--all born Oregon.
If you look on an Oregon map you will see that your gggrandfather George
Washington CARDWELL settled in Canyonville, Douglas Co.; and my Cardwell's
in Jacksonville, Jackson Co., which are adjoining counties. Now all we
have to do is make the connection!
What do you think?
Sharon

Sharon;
My gggrandfather was George Washington Cardwell who came west about
1854-1855. He settled in the Canyonville, Or. area. I show his children
as follows:
1. Zachariah b. 5 Apr 1832 White Co. Tn. d. 25 Dec.1909 Myrtle Creek,
Or. m.Susan Jane Stephens 22 Oct 1865 Jacksonville, Or.
2. Thomas b. 1835 Tn.
3. Julian (Doc) b. 1838 Tn.
4. Ellinor b.13 Sep 1840 White Co. Tn.
5. James Monroe b. 1842 Tn.
6. Saraphine b. 29 Oct 1844 Whit Co. Tn. d. 10 Sep 1916 Days Creek, Or.
m. N.B.Poole (my ggrandparents)
7. John b. 1846 Tn
8. Wiley b. 1848 Tn.
9. Martha A. b. 14 April 1850 Tn.
10. Caroline b. 29 Oct 1854 Ia.
Zac and Thomas would be the only ones old enough to have had a daughter
born in 1858. I'm wondering if old George might have been the father of
more children after they got to Oregon. What do you think?
You have me curious about this Cardwell. Let me know if you learn
anything and in the meantime I'll see what I can dig up.
Luck,
Gary Poole
