I have been researching Leonard H Cardwell who settles in Smith or
Sumner
County TN. I can not find who his parents are or his brothers and
sisters.
If you know any information on this individual I would appreciate it.
Leonard Hendersen or Henton Cardwell born in North Carolina in 1809
according to the 1850 Census. He was also the executor of John G.
Cardwell's
will dated 1843 in Smith County TN.
The Cardwells that settled in Sumner and Smith Counties are from the
line of Thomas Cardwell of Granville Co., NC. I have not worked out the
entire family groups of this particular line, but here is what I have
(needs more substantial research).
Jonathan Leonard Cardwell - born 1773
married Lucy Strum on 18 Dec 1802 in Granville Co.,NC
migrated to Smith Co.Tn in the 1820's
Thomas Cardwell, Jr. - born -
married temperance Lenay on 19 Dec 1805 in Granville Co., NC
migrated to Sumner Co.,TN by the 1830 census
William Cardwell - born
married Ann Lawrence on 4 Nov 1806 in Granville Co.,NC
migrated to Sumner Co.,TN
John G. Cardwell - born 1780-90 died 1843 in Smith Co.,Tn
wife: Sarah H. (per 1850 census)
migrated to Sumner Co.,TN in the 1820s
Richard Wilson Cardwell - born 28 Sept 1785
married Margaret Loyd on 2 Dec 1806 in Granville Co.,NC
migrated to Sumner Co.,Tn by 1830 then on to Arkansas
Caleb Cardwell - born 1780-90
migrated to Smith co.,Tn by 1820 then on to Montgomery Co., ILL
Anderson Cardwell - born
migrated to Smith Co.,TN by 1820 then on to ILL by 1840
I theorize that your Leonard is the son of John G. Cardwell, but more
work needs to be done to be sure. In the 1830 census he is living close
to John, plus he is executor of his will. Then again he amy be the son
of anyone of the Cardwell brothers that settled in those counties.
Maybe this will get the ball rolling.

Rand Cardwell
