I have recently been looking at the AGLL film # V202-78 Smith Co TN Court of
Pleas and Quarter Sessions Minutes. So far I have found a few Cardwell's but
I'm only up to about the 1815-1817 volumes. I will send more later but
here's what I have:
CARDWELL, Buchner S. (who is this? anyone heard of him?) in the 1799,
1804-1835 volume p. 163, 169, 170, 171, and 198 No other CARDWELL's listed
in this volume.
CARDWELL, John Vol. 1808-1811 p. 106 No others mentioned
No CARDWELL's mentioned in the 1813-1815 Volume
No CARDWELL's mentioned in the 1815-1817 but there are 3 CALDWELL's, Daniel,
James, & William.
No CARDWELL's mentioned in the Smith Co Wills & inventories 1805-1809 or the
1812-1814 books.
CARDWELL vs HOPKINS mentioned 1819-1820 p. 311. I may find more in this
volume as it was not well indexed.
No CARDWELL's mentioned in the 1820-1822 index however, it is the origional
index & some may be found not in alphabetical order.
NO CARDWELL's mentioned in the 1823-1824.
When it is an origional index as in the three directly above, Cardwell's may
be found. In the Cardwell vs. Hopkins, Mr. Hopkins may not be in the index
(only Cardwell). So if someone brings suit against a Cardwell, the Cardwell
may not be mentioned in the index.
According to some reports I've seen, they think the Cardwell's came to Smith
Co right before the 1820 census. According to the above, John was there by
1806!
I will post more on these later.
