Hello Fellow Rooters!
I have traced back to a Simon Cardwell in 1805. He participated in the
1805 Land Lottery for Cherokee land. He had two draws for this lottery and
they both came up blank. He had a son, John Cardwell. Simon and John both
received land in the 1827 Land Lottery in Georgia. The listing for John
also refers to the fact that he was a soldier. John received a lot in
Secion 1, which would have been Lee County. Simon received a lot in each of
two draws, both being in Carroll County. Their county of residence at the
time of the drawing was Henry county. However, Simon's county of residence
in the 1805 drawing was in Ogelthorpe County. There is no census
information that exists before 1820 for the state of Georgia. There was a
census taken in 1790 but none of the information exists today.
I have found a genealogical record for a Robert Cardwell (1746 - 1839).
The record says that he had a son named Simon Cardwell but lists no
marriage info. other than he had a son named John. The only info on John is
that he married Armenta Watkins. No children, birth dates, etc. are listed.
I feel very strongly that this is one of the lost family members that I
have been searching for but can't quite make the connection yet. If any of
this sounds familiar, I would appreciate what ever info you may have on
this line. It seems that the Georgia Cardwell contingency is proving to be
quite elusive. Thanks!
Ann Cardwell
