in this volume.
I have him as follows:
Buckner S. Cardwell - b. ca 1809 in NC. - wife = not sure
children:
Sarah J. -b.1833
Joseph Leonard - b. 30 Sept 1835 in Smith Co.,Tn -d. >1922 -Civil War
vet - (I believe that he MIGHT be named after Buckner's probable father.
Lucy A. - b.1838 - (I believe that she MIGHT be named after Buckner's
probable mother) [J. Leonard Cardwell to Lucy Strum -18 Dec 1802-
Granville, Co.,NC - This is the son of Thomas of Granville]
Mary J. - b.1841
Nancy C. - b.1849
David -b.1851
Elizabeth -b.1855
Luverna- b.1858
I theorize that Buckner S. Cardwell is the oldest son of Joseph Leonard
Cardwell and Lucy Strum. That his father moved to Smith Co.,Tn from his
home in Granville Co.,NC between 1820-30- he is listed in the 1820
census of Granville Co.,NC and the 1830 census for Smith Co.,TN.
Several of his brothers and their families had already settled in Smith
Co.,Tn. I'm not sure of the date that the Granville Co.,NC Cardwell boys
started showing up in Smith Co.,TN. It appears that John G. Cardwell was
here very early (I have around 1810) that other brothers "straggled in"
up to around 1830 or a little before. Brothers Anderson and Caleb
touched down in Smith Co. then up and moved north.
I think the biggest part of the Smith Co.,TN puzzle is placing the sons
of the Granville boys with the correct father. Anyway, hope this helped.
