This is the first time I have tried this so I hope I'm doing it right.
My Cardwells (my mothers side) came to FL. from where, I don't know. I have
very limited information
on them, but it goes as follows:
To date, I have no information on Nathaniels parents, suspect his father
could be Wade H. CARDWELL. I have a picture of a very stately looking
gentleman
Nathaniel Timothy, b: c 1803 in Bluff Springs (Santa Rosa Co.) FL. He
married Mary Jane NORRIS:
Children of Nathaniel and Mary Jane;
Thomas Joseph, b: 20 Jun 1897, marr: Velma JONES
William Hampton (my grandfather) b: 1 Sep 1902 in Milligan FL (Okaloosa
Co.) Marr: Ella Eola BROCK
Lola
Addie Viola, b: 30 Dec 1907, marr: John Allen BODIE
Dan
I found a cemetery in Bluff Springs FL (right off hwy 29) @ Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church (founded 1856)
Buried there:
Susan CARDWELL (wife of William J. McNeal) 1836--1915
Elizabeth CARDWELL b: 16 Aug. 1795 d: 16 Dec. 1862
Celestine CARDWELL CHAVERS: b: 20 Sep 1914, d: 11 Oct 1939
Navolou CARDWELL b: 29 Nov 1807, d: 4 Oct 1808
Jas. L CARDWELL, b: 4 Oct. 1884, d: 18 Sep 1939
Emma Barker CARDWELL, b: 6 Mar 1887, d: 18 Jul 1953
Wade H. CARDWELL, b: 6 Oct 1840, d: 25 Apr 1917
Robert J. CARDWELL, b: 7 Jul 1870, d: 18 Aug 1893
Mary E. CARDWELL, b: 19 Mar 1879, d: 13 Oct 1945
As yet I have not been able to get into the FL census, to look these up.
Does anyone know of these CARDWELLs? Would love to know more about my

THANKS,
Linda

Rand-your email about the Cardwell in California is most interesting,
since I have an almost identical incidence in my line. I have a William
Lumpkin Cardwell,b.1827,GA (son of John, b.1800,GA, and Pheraby
[Phoebe] Gosdin, b.? m. 1816) who served in the Mexican war from
29 June 1846 to 26 May 1847 in Co.K, 1st regiment of Alabama
infantry(Coffey's). He and his brother, Benjamin served together
in the same outfit. They both returned to Alabama and William went
to work in the steel mills in Talledega Co., AL. The 1850 census lists
William living with the Silas Garrigus family with occupation listed
as an apprentice hammerman. Not long after that, he went to
California, supposedly to look for gold, and was never heard from again
by the family. Could this be just a coincidence, or two cousins chasing
rainbows, or just another old family tale with no firm basis? I have tried
and tried to tie my line to the Robert Cardwell line with no success.
Just wanted to share this info with you. I have military records on William
and brother Benjamin as well as their father, John (war of 1812 and
Seminole Indian uprising of 1818).Their brother, John II later served in
the Civil War in the 8th Confederate Cavalry, and died in the war.
