Greetings to all on the list!
I've just gotten back from a couple of weeks on vacation and am catching
up with email. I want to thank everyone who responded to my inquiry
about my gggrandfather Leonard Henton CARDWELL of Smith Co, TN!

OK, here's my "most wanted" CARDWELL:
Does anyone have any info on
Leonard Henton CARDWELL, b. ABT 1809 (according to 1850 census), lived
in Smith Co, TN, d. 1875.
He supposedly had a sister Charlotte CARDWELL who married John DRAKE.
His parents were possibly John CARDWELL and Susan WARN (WARREN?)
Can anyone verify this? I do have info on Leonard's descendants.
Cheers,

Several of you warned not to take the work of Alan Pendergrass/st/ph as
Gospel Truth. Thanks for the warning. However it looks like the place to
start looking for answers is Granville Co NC, then maybe Prince Edward
Co, VA and Cumberland Co, VA. This looks promising because I have Smith
Co TN ROBINSONS from Cumberland Co, VA and Smith Co LACKS probably from
Pr. Edward Co, VA, and the Cardwells, Robinsons and Lacks seem to have
been marrying back and forth for a long time.
BTW, Rand mentioned that Thomas CARDWELL of Granville Co, NC had a son
Leonard (this is a different Leonard) who married Lucy Strum in
Greenville Co, NC 18 DEC 1802. Interestingly the 1992 I.G.I. for
Tennessee shows a Leonard Jefferson Cardwell b. ABT 1804 to parents J.
(Jonathan) Cardwell and Lucy Strum. Now, the article in the "Smith Co.
History" book apparently (I don't have a copy) has J(onathan) Leonard
CARDWELL as one of Thomas CARDWELL's son who came to Smith Co. TN, so
that seems to fit. The I.G.I. also has a Leonard Jefferson CARDWELL, Jr.
married to Lockie L. ROBINSON in Smith Co, TN 13 SEP 1828. Is this the
same Leonard Jefferson? If so, why the Jr.?
Thanks again to all who responded to my query!

P.S. I know some of you had difficulty accessing my database at
http://www.uta.fi/~skmiod/genweb/Cardwell/Cardwell.html
I have no idea what was wrong, but it does seem to be working again.
