First, seems that there are as many James Cardwells that fought in the Civil War as there
are Perrin Cardwell in the late 1700's. (I guess that would only be funny to those who
have been around on this list for awhile)
Secondly, I have all the records of the guy listed below.
Kay, this is the brother of Matilda. He was wounded pretty bad during the war (grapeshot
for the military buffs) and suffered from it the rest of his life. He and his wife,
Melissa Acuff, never had any children.
The rest of the James' appear to be centered around the Sumner/Smith County clan. The
exception being the one listed in Warren County. He is the grandson of Francis Cardwell,
ggrandson of John Cardwell of Claiborne County, gggrandson of George Cardwell of
Cumberland County, VA who was the son of Thomas Cardwell and Martha Perrin.
