Janel, Charles, Gary and others;
With all the recent exchanges of info on the Perrin of Adair (which I
feel is the best method in communicating just which Perrin we are
dealing with) I've been questioning some of my "pre-internet" data.
It seems that there is some question if the Perrin of Adair Co.,KY is
the same man as the Perrin of Wilkes Co.,NC. Consider the following:
Marriage Records: Wilkes County, NC (*******Wilkes was formed out of
Surry. Which was formed out of Rowan - I think this explains why Perrin
of Wilkes shows up in records of all three of these counties.******)
Back to the Marriage records.....
Betty Cardwell to John Flannagan - 25 October 1784
Now if Betty is the daughter of Perrin of Wilkes AND Perrin of Wilkes is
the man who married Sarah Cearley in Rowan Co.,NC on 11 March 1767 it
would make Betty around 16 at the time of her marriage. Not unheard
of.... I've an aunt that married at 14 (but I come from that backward
line of Cardwells that stayed up in the Tennessee Mountains until a
couple of generations ago <grin>)
Anyway, guess who shows up in the 1820 Adair County, KY census? John
Flanigin and family! Not sure if this is the same one, but given how
families moved in units back in those days I find it something to be
looked into. BTW John and Betty Flannagan were listed in the Wilkes
Co.,NC records up to 1800... which is about the same time that Perrin of
Wilkes "disappears".
Perrin of Wilkes deeds his land on Naked Creek in Wilkes Co.,NC to
Thomas Cardwell in 1801. I'm not sure if this Thomas was his son or not,
but Thomas sold the land in 1803. Then we find a Thomas living next to
Perrin in Adair Co.,KY in 1810! Hummmmmmmmmmm.
Next we can link Perrin of Carroll Co.,TN to Adair County,KY by the
marriage record between him and Catherine Cook.
We can link Richard of Carroll,TN and Green Co.,ARK to Adair Sounty, KY
by the marriage record between him a Susannah Cook. I think that we can
link Richard with George in Roane county,TN as early as 1817. That
Richard moves to Carroll County,Tn close to brother Perrin. Then Thomas
moves from Adair to Roane/Putnam/White County, TN after the elder
Perrin's death.
It appears that Thomas of Adair (the one that is living next to Perrin
of Adair in 1820) can be linked to George Cardwell of Roane/Putnam/White
Counties, TN. in the 1830 census of White County. George list his
birthplace as NC. So does Richard and Thomas.
I'm not sure how Perrin of Wilkes ties into the families in Virgina. I'm
not sure who the Perrin Cardwell that shows up in Hopkins Co.,KY is.
I'm not even sure of how several of the other "Perrins" tie into the
family, but I feel preety confident that we are on the right track in
solving this particular line.
Just diggin' around,
Rand Cardwell
