Do you know where in Oregon William Lee took roots? I've had
several
people ask me if I knew of other Cardwell lines in Oregon and I am glad
you provided this info. THANKS!!!
Kay,
Here goes with another one of my "data dumps" <grin>.
William Lee Cardwell was born around 1810 in Amelia Co.Va to Rev. Perrin
Cardwell and Elizabeth Worsham Cardwell. This was just prior to the
family making a mass movement to East Tennessee. It appears that Richard
Cardwell the oldest son of Perrin and Elizabeth (William Lee's brother)
was in Knox County, Tn at the time of his death in 1813. It was then
that Perrin and sons Daniel and Thomas George arrived to claim his
estate. They stayed in the area. First, in Grainger County where in 1829
William Lee married Mary Ann Biddle. In 1830 in new couple moved to
Sangamon County, ILL (I believe that the Biddle family moved there also,
but can't find it in my notes). They stayed in Sangamon Co. Ill until
1852 when they made the move to Oregon. William Lee founded the Portland
Furniture Manufacturing Company in 1858. He died in 1863.
Wiliam Lee Cardwell and Mary Ann Biddle Cardwell had the following
children (sorry but I don't have much info on them... I do know that
there should be some good info on the 1860 Oregon census records
concernig this family)
J.R. Cardwell (male) born 1830 Sangamon Co.Ill
B.P. Cardwell (male) born 1832 " " "
D. Cardwell (female) born 1835 " " "
M. Cardwell (female) born 1838 " " "
Martha Cardwell (female) born 1840 " " "
W. Cardwell (male) born 1842 " " "
R. Cardwell (male) born 1844 " " "
two additional children that I have no info on.
I have two bios from "The Illustrated History of Oregon" by Hines pub.
1893. One is of B.P Cardwell and the other is of J.R. Cardwell, both
sons of William Lee Cardwell.

Side note:
Also would like to know if anyone knows this Cardwell:
A J.R. Cardwell married a D.M. Acuff on 11/15/1866 in Grainger Co, TN.
let me know if you know this guy.
Kay! Kay! Kay! Kay! How soon we forget!
The James R. Cardwell that married D. Melissa Acuff in Grainger County,
Tn on 15 Nov. 1866 is the son of Richard M. Cardwell and Sarah Crowder.
Ring any bells? <grin> James R. Cardwell fought in the Civil War in the
26th Tn Inf. CSA. I have a copy of his pension records. He and Melissa
never had children. He died in 1911 in Grainger Co.TN. Just wondering if
these two Acuff girls are related?
Later,
Rand
