Hello Everyone,
Been digging around in my files the last couple of nights.... Why is it
that I end up working on family history in the wee hours of the morning?
Anyway found something that has got me curious.
In the 1830 census of Crawford County, Arkansas are two Cardwells, Orrin
and Starting/Startling. Very unusal names for Cardwell men. A far cry
from Thomas, John, George, William, James, Daniel, Richard and last but
not least Perrin!
From that census we can figure that Orrin was born between 1790 and 1800
(1110001-223101). And that Starting/Startling was born between 1810-1820
(00001-01001).
We'll as I was looking through my Kentucky stuff I found a Orin Cardwell
listed in the 1830 census of Daviess Co.,KY. (Don't have the actual
listing just an index) and also a marriage record for that county:
Starling Cardwell & Elizabeth Barker: 25 December 1822
Puttin' two and two together I say we've got a match! I'd guess that
Orrin Cardwell is the father of Starling and that they moved from
Daviess Co., Ky between 1830 and 1840 then they show-up in the Crawford
County, Ark census.
The big question is how do they tie into the known Cardwell families?
The only Cardwells that I can find close to them are living in Hopkins
County, KY in the 1830 census (Hopkins borders Daviess):
pg. 35 - Thomas Cardwell
pg. 38 - James R. Cardwell
pg. 43 - Perrin Cardwell
I have this Perrin as being listed in the 1820 Hopkins County, KY
census. Thomas and James R. are not found in that county that census.
Perrin Cardwell age- 26 to 45 = born 1775-94
possible wife - 16 to 26 = born 1794-1804
female - 16 to 26 = born 1794-1804
two daughters - 0 to 10 = born 1810-20
I have this as being a different Perrin than the one that lived in Adair
County, KY in the 1810 census. I rule out it being Perrin of Adair's son
due to Perrin of Carroll Co.,TN and Green Co.,ARK having a connection to
Adair County,Ky through his marriage to Catherine Cook.
Does anyone have any info on these guys?
Just diggin' around,
Rand Cardwell
