I have a book "Smith Co. History" that states 1st Cardwell
in Smith Co.
was John G. (on jury by 1808).
Francie,
Is that the 'Smith Co. Histroy' book that was printed for the 1976
bicentennial? I have that article. Emily Watson Cardwell who married Thomas
Overstreet is my line. I have a copy of John G.'s will where he mentions his
deceased daughter, Emily and his other children.
The article
goes on to list desc. of John G. and J(onathan) Leonard. The article
was written by Edward L. Thackston, presumably a resident of Smith Co.
Hope this helps!
Francie Lane
A researcher did some work on our family about 10 yrs. ago. She did contact
Mr. Thackston. He told her that Alan Pendergrast did the research for Dr.
Robert J. Cardwell of TX. At the time both men were unable to discuss their
findings. So, unless someone can find the family of Dr. Cardwell (I haven't
tried yet) and get some proof of their work, I guess we'll have to start from
stratch.
Sincerely,
Carmelita
