Hey Gang,
I've noticed a couple of post about the Smith County, TN groups. I've not
done much research on this line, but I can hopefully point some folks in
the right direct. (Just let me know what you find out)<grin>
The info I have points to the majority of the Cardwells that migrated to
Smith Co. TN came from Granville Co., NC.

Rand,
Caleb went to Montgomery Co., Illinois, where he can be found on the 1830
and 1840 census. I assume he died before 1850
and that some of the of the young Cardwells in 1860 were his children.
There was a Malinda Cardwell, 11, living with William and Sarah CARDWELL
Pittsford. Also a Lucy CARDWELL, 26?
with Silas M. 5, and Mary E. 3. I have not worked on this family for a
long time. But since James W. CARDWELL belonged
to an Illinois unit during the Blackhawk Indian war, he might be the 15-20
male in Calebs household 1830. James W. was back in Davidson Co., by 1839
when he married Martha NUGENT. Martha's pension application gave his
birthplace as Sumner Co.
I need to pull out all of my Cardwell notes, just not enough hours in the day!

Jan
