From Some Early Pioneers of Western Kentucky, by Helen Hart Peyton, 1990:
"George served the co. as defendant in debt cases, juror and processioner.
He did appear in court, June 1767, and by Aug 1767, a Thomas Tabb was
petitioned to be appointed the administrator of George Cardwell's estate.
The Court also ordered the dower right to be laid off for Letitia, in the
estate of her husband, George Cardwell. The years of 1771-1779, records of
the South Parish Vestry shows a John Netherland being granted an annual
amount of 800 pounds of tobacco to be used in the support of Letitia
Cardwell's children. On 17 Dec 1778, Powhatan Court Order Record lists the
church wardens of Southam Parish to bind out orphans of George Cardwell.
Sons Francis and Richard were not on the church record, but theorized to
probably be the older sons of this George Cardwell. Other children may be
children of George and Letitia. These children are listed for research
purposes only; no claim is being made that they are proven children of
George, only an assumption".
His name is mentioned in the Processioners Report, Southam Parish for the
years 1748 and 1751.
Sons are identified consistent with the above as Francis, Richard, Thomas W.,
John and Perrin.
