FYI - I sent a message in a week or two ago to FCC.gov. I received a
response stating that the case had be closed, the FCC disallowed the
request of the phone companies for these charges.
Terry,
This is bogus. The following snip is from
http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Common_Carrier/Factsheets/ispfact.html
In December 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requested
public comment on issues relating to the charges that Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) and similar companies pay to local telephone companies.
On May 7, 1997, the FCC decided to leave the existing rate structure in
place. In other words, the FCC decided not to allow local telephone
companies to impose per-minute access charged on ISPs.
Please Note: There is no open comment period in this proceeding. If you
have recently seen a message on the Internet stating that in response to
a request from local telephone companies, the FCC is requesting comments
to <isp(a)fcc.gov> by February 1998, be aware that this information is
inaccurate.
The FCC issued an unrelated public notice, DA 98-2, on January 5, 1998
in connection with a report to Congress on universal service. Pursuant
to the FCC's 1998 appropriations legislation, the Commission must submit
a report by April 10, 1998 on several issues including the legal status
of Internet services under the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Comments
in response to the public notice are due January 20, 1998, and reply
comments are due February 2, 1998. Informal comments may be sent by
email to <usreport(a)fcc.gov>.

Just a quick but important message concerning E-Mail. This is to inform
you of a very important matter currently under review by the FCC.
Your local telephone company has filed a proposal with the FCC to impose
per minute charges for your internet service. They contend that your
usage has, or will, hinder the operation of the telephone network.
E-Mail, in my opinion will diminish dramatically if users were required
to pay additional per minute charges. The FCC has created a E-Mail box
for your comments, responses must be received by February 13, 1998. Send
your comments to "isp(a)fcc.gov" tell them what you think. Every phone
company is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak it in just under
the wire for litigation. Let everyone you know hear this one. Get
E_Mail
addresses to everyone you can think of.
Forward this to your E_Mail friends and ask them to write to the FCC at
the
above address.
We all must write and send to everyone we know to write also. We don't
want or need extra charges for email.

I feel that we pay the phone companies plenty, and I think this is just a
ploy so that the phone companies will not have to upgrade our unfit, worn
down phone lines. I also think that they feel threatened that we're not
making phone calls anymore because of e-mail, which in my opinion, is a
crock. Let's get out comments to the FCC so that this stupidity is
stopped! Who knows too, maybe this is a break that I-Link can use since
they're trying to get that $20/month voice phone plan (long distance) going
on anyway... =)
You stated in a letter you wrote on Jan. 16th that:
<I have already heard the emotional, hateful
arguments. Where are the facts? Don't keep sending me notes of emotion
about somebody taking away our cheap ride. Send me some facts I can
digest.>
I felt the need to respond to this as a fact that we should not have to pay
for e-mail as we are already paying fees for the use of telecommunications
network services and also do you happen to work for Bell Telephone? Everyone
is entitled to their opinions and charging by the mail would get extremely
expensive for any amateur genealogist. I am not trying to start a flame war
but if you do not agree with the letter then you don't have to forward it just
delete it as I am sure allot of people will with this one. Thank you for your
time.
Jenny
I am sorry if I am sending this to someone who has previously received it.
Part of this is SPAM and/or a hoax! If your genealogy list does not accept
such mail, pls delete it. I understand and there is no need to post me abt it.
There is no no request for input from individuals. Do not post to the isp e-
dress! In today's paper there is info on this. The request from the
telephone companies is to charge our individual servers a by the minute
charge. This, IF IT GOES through would likely increase our bills, but WE
would NOT be charged by the minute.
WRITE TO YOU SENATOR OR CONGRESSMAN AND ASK THAT HE VOTE AGAINST ANY SUCH
increase to our servers.
PLS post this to anyone to whom you have forwarded this message.

This is something I found that proves that Ella and Albert Sidney
Johnson Cardwell were married/together and a time line to go by.
> Shannon County MO Courthouse: On Dec 20 1887 A S Cardwell and wife Ella
> R Cardwell sold property in MO between the community of Ink and Round
> Spring (about 8 miles east of Summersville). A Warranty Deed for the

> 97-98 selling the property to Mr W L George. A second 1/8th was sold a

This is who I think Ella belongs too but have not proven it.

Now Ella and Sidney had two children. The girl died at 10mo and the boy,
Walter, was 3 when the parents split up. Ella re-married to a man named
Carr and they had two boys. Walter I found out recently lived in Oregon
- where I grew up but the one relative who knew - didn't tell the family
until MANY years later.
Not sure if Walter went by new married name of mom or Cardwell?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks

Hello All.
I often re-read old handwritten letters passed down and find something
new or try a new angle.
The following is a portion of a letter I just re-read and if anyone can
help, please e-mail me.
This letter was written by my oldest great aunt to her first cousin. I
have not changed the grammer or spelling. ( ) my notes.
. . .I used to play the organ and he (her father, Sidney Johnson
Cardwell) the fiddle for dances and we'd go sometimes a long distance to
play for dances he was the only fiddler for miles and miles. On our way
sometimes in old hacks or horseback usually go and play till day light.
On these trips he used to tell me things. He told me about his life as a
child marriages etc. His mother went blind completely when he was 7 yrs
old (that would be 1870) and some people named Goodrich raised him and
sent him to what schooling he had. He married their daughter Vallie
Goodrich and they had 1 baby boy - They died of Typhoid fever when the
boy was very little - He (Sidney) was very unhappy and left that part of
Missouri. Then he married Ella Summers . . . .the letter continues on
and on.
She also wrote the following:
Grandma - (Carolina Matilda Cardwell) had black hair
Grandpa - (Albert Reddick) had red hair
In 1870 this Cardwell family was in the Grainger Co area. Have not been
able to locate a Goodrich connection. Does anyone know of a Goodrich
family in the area? According to my records the families migrated to MO
in the mid 1880's.
Are there other Reddick's in the area with red hair?
What cemeteries are in the area? Are there any Typhoid death records?
Also, with a mom that goes blind so young - could this be a reason she
might not have written for a pension. Her husband never returned home
after the war and she never filed for a pension. Maybe he didn't want
the responsibility of 5 kids and a blind wife. Hmmmmmm, never thought of
this before.
I welcome comments and any info about these family names.
Thanks for reading

Hello. A thought I had. Do you have any Cardwell's that moved from MO to
TX around the turn of the century. They would have moved from Miller Co
MO area.
The parents of the children that moved are William Henderson Cardwell
and Barbara Kitts. The children are James Nelson, Anzo Nettie, Sidney
Worth, Charles Lafayette, Frederick Richard, William Franklin, Marguret
M, Lula M, Caswell Lenore, Rosa L, Eva L.
Some stayed in the MO area all of their lives but I was told that some
moved to Texas - have yet to follow up on who went.
Let me know if you need married names too.
Thanks
Kay
Well an interesting phone call came to me today.
My dad called and said that he received a package in the mail from
another Cardwell that lives in the Portland, OR area. Says that there
are about 25 pages of names and dates going "way back" - could not pin
him down to be more specific - said I will have to wait and read it. The
"way back" always makes me a bit skeptical.
Well - the other part of it was that he said he saw the name Brownlee in
there too.
What are the chances of that? Are they related? Just one of those quinky
dinks. Suspense.
Wonder how many Cardwell lines were involved in the Oregon trail?
Will keep you posted and see what this envelop brings. :)
Hope you are all having a good weekend.
Kay
I have just received some new information on my line - seems they moved from Georgia in the late 1830's. It seems the father of my William Cardwell was John Cardwell who moved to Tallapoosa county. He is listed in the 1830 census of Troup county, Georgia with 5 males and 4 females. He showed up in the 1840 Alabama census in Tallapoosa county and a William Cardwell is in the Randolph county census for the same year. My William Cardwell ended up in Coosa county prior to the 1850 census. William married Sarah McCluskey in 1833, Troup county, Georgia. I know there are some Randolph county Cardwell's. This may be the link I needed to connect them in. If you have any further, please contact me! Thanks!
