I'm trying to work on the ancestry on my husband's side of the family, and
I've hit a bit of a wall. The most distant I can find is Burket Carder (b. about
1833) noted in the 1860 census to be living with a Peter Carder (brother?) and WS (male)
and E (female). There is about a 40 year difference in age between E and Burket. I
don't know if this is his mother and father or if this is perhaps grandparents that he
is living with. Does anyone have any more information on this family line? Could this be
William and Eliza? I've been looking at some other census records of a family with
those names, but can't find Burket listed as a child at any point.
I do know that Burket was reportedly born in Virginia. Since I'm quite new to this,
would I have luck contacting the state records department to look for a birth record in
this timeframe?
Thank you!
