This is an appeal to our American cousins. I am looking for any connection between the
Carder family an the town of Wethersfield in Connecticut. I believe the early settlers
included Richard Carder (b.c1615 in Essex, England) who probably came from Wethersfield in
Essex, England.
Certainly from 1600 to 1650 the only known population of Carder's in Essex was in the
Wethersfield area. It is probable that people from the village, including some
Carder's, emigrated to the New World and founded the town of Wethersfield,
Connecticut.
My branch of the Carder family comes from south Cambridgeshire, England, (only a few miles
from Wethersfield) and I can trace this lineage back to 1596. Prior to that, from research
into wills & land deeds, I am 95% certain, that my family also originated in
Wethersfield.
The only problem is that the early Wethersfield Parish Registers have been lost and
official records only begin there in 1650. But through the wills etc I have what I think
is a fairly accurate but incomplete Carder family tree from Thomas Carder who was born
c.1490 up to the ealy 1600's. But there is then a gap until 1650!
If anybody can add any information to this theory or thinks otherwise I would be delighted
to hear from them.
Best wishes,
Paul
