Arthur, I finally mustered up enough courage to tackle FB and found out it
is
relatively easy to manuever. There are quite a few of our Cardens signed
up.
I don't know what is happening to all the "groups" but all of them are
becoming
inactive......perhaps the summer has been just too busy ? Do hope to see
you and
more Cardens on the Carden Family Association of the USA. Barbara

Hi, listers!
James Carden has invited me to join a group set up by himself and Becky
at Facebook called "Carden Family Association of the USA" where a
letter from Eddie Carden of Hampton VA can be found inviting people to
contact him about a proposed Carden Gathering in USA. I hope such a
gathering takes place. I don't think Eddie is a member of this mailing
list, but members can see his letter by visiting Facebook and putting the
above group name in the search box.
I have not yet decided whether to join or not, as I live in England, and
am
not much of a fan of Facebook (too senile perhaps), but see that there are
451 groups at Facebook which include the word CARDEN in their title,
mostly
of course for alumni of Carden schools, but a good many for members of our
family.
One group is called "We worked on Carden Island......and survived!!!"
Intrigued by the idea of a Carden Island I finally found the following in
the Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons. NAAF Corinto,
Nicaragua - During WWII ... The base at Corinto was established on a
strategic landlocked harbor formed by the junction of six rivers and
Carden
Island, lying at the entrance to the harbor on the east. ... 65 miles
from
Managua.
Comments please! Lets have lots more posts to this mailing list, which
seems to be fading away.

Very interesting!!
I am on Facebook and love the idea of a Carden Gathering in the US. My
Carden line came from John Carden in 1700's Goochland County, VA, but I
have
been unable to go further. Several years ago my cousin purchased a
portrait
at a flea market that was of "Sheriff Robert Carden" who was a sheriff in
the 1800's in England. The portrait was an exact image of my uncle and a
very good likeness of my grandfather and 2 of his brothers. That portrait
made me believe our Carden line came from England but I have been unable
to
make a connection. The only information I have on that ancestor is his
name
and location. He migrated to Pike County, GA from Virginia, but there
were
several John Carden's in the area at the time and I have been unable to
determine which one is mine. I have a suspicion that he or his ancestor
came over as an indentured servant, but I cannot verify anything. I am
interested in your DNA project. Could you give me more details? At the
time I first heard of it I was temporarily unemployed and could not
participate.
Thank you so much for including me in your email.
Sincerely,
Joyce Bates
