Oh what a lovely bunch of mail to brighten my day. I look forward so much to
my Carden digest mail every day!
And I am totally submerged in the Civil War right now! I have just come
across a marvelous find about a related line in the 1st Cherokee Mounted
Rifles unit! Joseph W. Carden... would assume it has to be Joseph W. Carden
Jr's son., because his father Joseph W. Carden Jr. died in 1862, and his
father Joseph W. Carden, my direct link, died in 1827.....was an asst.
surgeon for the unit and my brother and I have begun to dig into all the
wonderful information about his further military career. Even though it is
not a direct line for me, we have been looking for our Native American
connections for some time now and this has offered us one of the first leads
we've seen. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Joseph W. Carden Jr. was
brother to my direct ancestor, Christopher Columbus Carden.
My other main focus for research right now is Joseph Carden of Botetourt
County, Virginia, born 1755, married Mary (?) in 1775. They had ten
children: Isaac, John L., Rachel, Mary, Allen Dickerson, Robert D., Joseph
W., Nancy, Elizabeth, and Jane. I have been in touch with a Richard Carden
that tells me he has some records of the family originating in West
Virginia, and am eager to follow this up.
My two cents on the living persons issue....use the names and connected
names cautiously in this public forum, because of the mentioned dangers, and
use the dates and locations and any other information in private messages.
We are all "chatty" enough with each other to be aware of who is searching
for what and can surely communicate any pertinent information among
ourselves without having to put it out in public for possible misuse that
could cause problems for any of our kinfolk! And for those not connected
with the mailing list yet...there are certainly plenty of postings around to
let them know where to get in touch. I see postings everyday in my searches
and make an effort to leave one anywhere I go to let them know about this
group! I most definitely support the free access to data on the web, but
don't want to see anyone harmed by it.
Since I don't know which direction my line is going to lead me to yet...I
wish all of you *cousins* good luck in your searching!
