Was at the National Archives for a short time today and researched Matthew E
Carden and John A.A.S. Carden sons of William and Sarah (Thompson) Carden
and James M. and Samuel R Carden, sons of Randolph (Randle) and Elizabeth
(Thompson) Carden, from Russell CO AL who joined the Co E, 39th AL Regiment
on Apr 20, 1862. The 'files' are on microfilm and consist of narrow
notebook pages (2 x 6). There is a lead page with the soldiers name,
company, rank on entry and at the end, and card numbers. This page is
followed by those pages relating to that soldier. They are old pages,
photographed a long time ago before we had the enhancements we have now, and
the microfilm readers that also print are not new technology either. The
copies are not 'great' but for the most part readible. The seven pages for
Matthew E. Carden are given below as they appear on the file. I have left
out those entries not completed. I've tried to type with the same spacing
and layout as on the sheets. (The parenthetical are my comments.) I knew
Matthew died in the civil war, I didn't know where he died or how he died.
