My 2G Grandfather, William Goldman CARDEN married Lourena Belle Slover in
1889. The SLOVERS were too well represented in the Civil War:
Lourena Slover CARDEN had eight brothers: (All from TN).
Of the eight brothers, Three served on the side of the Union and Five, the
confederacy. Sadly, Five would die at the early ages of 19, 20,21, 23, and
24. The remaining brothers who had served on the side of the Union were
disinherited by their Father in his will.
This is an example of how the Civil war often divided families. This must
have been a painful experience for William CARDEN and his wife, Lourena. They
would live to see this family torn apart by war.
Also, during my search of the Slover family, I found that one of The Brothers
of Lourena Belle Slover CARDEN, Henry Clay Slover married Matilda Adeline
CARDEN on August 11, 1867. If anyone is searching this line, I would be happy
to share my information with you. It seems that two CARDENS married two
SLOVERS which I found most interesting. These marriages both took place in
Anderson County, TN and I believe and my research indicates that a sister (
Lourena) married a CARDEN and her brother married a CARDEN as well. This
makes for a double blood line within the same family. Their children would
have been "Double- blooded" cousins. This intrigues me and I wanted to share
it with you.
