Heidi,
Ck. out this website for a good explanation of what to do if 'spammers'
take over your email address ::
http://www.seasonsecurity.com/my-email-is-sending-spam-to-all-my-contacts-67
331
Scroll down to post # 19 for a valid method of 'cleaning' your email -
Run multiple virus and malware scans using anti-spyware like CCCleaner or
Trend Micro's 'House Call'. Both are FREE and work well. CCCleaner is the
fastest; House Call is the most thorough. Did I mention they are both FREE
? House Call is my personal favorite -
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
After the scan has run, when you're sure the machine you're on is clean,
THEN is the time to change your password.
Also, to check any alternate email addresses you might use - for example @
Yahoo - make sure your email address there hasn't been compromised by spam
and is still valid. If not, clean that one too, just as you did before. That
way, if you change your password there, the 'spammer' can't retrieve it by
following the "forgot password" link.
That should do it...
Hope all is well.
Martha
Happy St. Patrick's Day !

Hi, Lynn - glad to know you are well and noting Carden matters.
I don't think there was anyone called Carden in the Coldstream Guards at
this period. The report probably refers to Coldstream James Carden, son of
the fourth baronet of the Templemore branch. Mark Robinson (who is studying
all military Cardens) writes: "Coldstream James Carden was promoted to the
rank of Captain with the Connaught Rangers on 29 May 1889, and was assigned
as Adjutant to the 5th Volunteer Battalion of the Liverpool Regiment. I
would assume that, although he remained in the Army List as an officer with
the Connaughts, he was deployed to Liverpool at the time of his assignment
to the Liverpool Regiment."
Please may I have the full Lyceum story. Could the words "in the summer of
the 1880's" refer to 1889?
I would love to know which of Agatha Christie's books used the name.

Every Saturday our newspaper has a local history column entitled
"Tales from
the past". Recently the story concerned the Lyceum, one of
Liverpool's
grand listed buildings, which was formerly a library and gentleman's club,
mainly frequented by moneyed merchants. In the summer of the 1880s a
group of gentlemen were gathered there, discussing a curious incident
which had deeply affected one of them concerning a ghostly apparition.
Among
this gathering (all named) was a Captain Carden of the Coldstream Guards.
Sadly no first name given, but not very likely one of our County Mayo
Cardens. I cannot find any reference to him in Liverpool, but perhaps
Arthur (hello) may have him listed.
Incidentally, Agatha Christie seemed quite fond of the name Carden.
She used it in two of her books for minor characters, and I came
across it again as part of an address whilst playing a computer game of
one of her
stories - Evil Under the Sun. Can't wait to get back and
find out
whodunit!
Best wishes to all,

I wonder if he is an ancestor of mine.
Among our Carden History is a couple of annecdotes. One was that my
Grandfathers' sister made her present know just after her death by standing
at the foot of a relative's bed. Since Captain Carden was in the Military,
maybe he is related to our branch since we have a military family history.
Come to think of it. There is a story that my mother who passed in 1981, had
a premonition of her death, so ghostly doings run in our branch of the
Carden family.
Another anecdote about another sister is that she was a spinster and a cat
lover and when she died her cats tried to pull the sheet off her body. Not
an apparition but weird anyway.

Hi Arthur,
Many thanks for the information on Captain Carden. It was good to know
he did exist, though with his first name being "Coldstream" it is
understandable that the author of the tale confused it with the name of the
Coldstream Guards Regiment. I will look out for him in future research.
I'm sorry to say I didn't keep the article, which appeared in the Liverpool
Echo over two weeks in January. As it primarily concerned a man named
Jones, I only have the beginning of it which mentions Captain Carden. It
states that, over a hundred years ago, on a stormy January afternoon, a
rather heated discussion was taking place within the reading room of the
Lyceum Club. The discussion concerned the "eternal subject" that of
ghosts. "Perhaps some who die have returned and they are the ghosts we
hear of," mused Carden, a captain in the Coldstream Guards. He lowered
his gaze as he sucked on his cigar stub and pretended to study The Times
newspaper, knowing full well his staged comments would stoke the debate.
Another member of the group persuades Jones to tell of his ghostly
experience which occurred one summer in the 1880s.
The remainder of the article only concerns Jones and his encountered with a
scantily clad young lady, whilst walking along the shore of the River
Mersey. She told him her name was Eleectra and she did not live in this
world...... So date-wise it could be the late 1880s or even later
when Jones recounted his experience.
Now, Arthur, I'm going to disappoint you again because it's a good while
since I read the Agatha Christie books containing the name Carden and I
can't remember which ones. They were minor characters and mentioned only
briefly. It was only when I was playing the computer game of "Evil under
the Sun" this week that the name Carden cropped up in an address. I
recalled that it was the third time she'd used the name in her stories, but
she did have a tendency to recycle names.
